Speed
The speed of a move estimates many frames it takes until the move's hitbox (damage) or main effect becomes active after the move initiates. In other words, speed is startup frames. There are 60 frames in a second. A move with a speed of 1 for example starts on frame 1, while a move with a speed of 6 starts on frame 6 (which is 0.1 seconds). Duration and "endlag" aren't considered. A slut's individual Agility and Perks also affect the exact number of frames. The listed value is just the default. Based on these thresholds moves can be broadly categorized into a few levels:
- Presient. 0 frames.
- Instant. 1 frame. A shine or bubble shield.
- Fast. 2 to 4 frames. A jab.
- Medium. 5 to 14 frames. A tilt, strong attack, or aerial move.
- Heavy. 15 to 30 frames. A smash attack. A focused and prepared mortal can react to a heavy attack's startup before it becomes active.
- Epic. 31 to 120 frames, or up to 2 full seconds. "Finishing Move," "Fatality," "Final Smash," etc. A Falcon Punch.
- Noncombat. More than 2 seconds. Generally a support move not meant for combat.
